La Famille goes Down Under - Bon Voyage!

Australia is the world sixth largest country and the worlds largest island. It is also the only island that is a continent and the only continent that is also a country... It’s home to the largest living thing on earth (the great barrier reef) and the most striking monolith (Ayers Rock – or Uluru which is its more respectful Aboriginal name). Now, not that I am in the least neurotic but am vaguely aware Oz has more things than anywhere else in the world that can kill you and in the most horrific ways imaginable… Canada was traumatic enough having to double-check the bear-proof loos in the National Parks for Grizzlies but this is every loo everywhere and the search is for less conspicuous beings - Red Backs... however, the sun will be shining and glass of sparkling wine is apparently cheaper than a diet coke... every cloud - silver lining etc...

We fly this evening to Dubai and then straight through to Sydney arriving 6am Friday morning where we will remain until Tuesday when we fly to meet the new family in Adelaide - 9 days there and then the leisurely jaunt along the Great Ocean Road to Melborne, then fly from Geelong back to Sydney and then spend the last few days there…

I write this from Birmingham where I arrived to Mother climbing the walls stating this was her 87th hour of being "fag free". Dad is yet to begin - and keeps slipping out the back for a crafty one saying he'll begin at the airport. On top of the cold turkey, Little Bro' keeps answering the telephone to wellwishers with a silly voice saying "Hello M15" and has not only threatened to slip Diazapan into my drink if I so much as get the laptop out on the plane but also tried to kill me being silly at the top of the stairs... I think the Royals have got it right not travelling together - perhaps the snakes, jelly fish and redbacks are the least of my concerns....?!
